This Week's Feature
Microbial biomass (MB) can be used to determine if you are sequestering carbon, which improves soil and helps combat global warming. In 1989 Anderson and Domsch showed that increasing microbial biomass predicted an increase in soil organic carbon (OC).
Green manure had a very different slope than all the other soil treatments but it also showed excellent correlation of MB with OC. This tells you that while you cannot predict the amount of OC from microbial biomass, you will know with very good certainty that if you are increasing your microbial biomass, you are increasing your soil organic carbon and building better soil.
Our founder, James Sottilo, used microBIOMETER® on the new Apple Campus in Texas to show that sustainable landscaping was sequestering carbon and Apple used this data in calculating their carbon.
